Monart Vase c1930s - Amber & Brown Scottish Art Glass, Shape SA VII

A richly coloured Scottish art-glass vase attributed to Monart, with a rounded body, pinched neck and gently flared rim.

Hand-blown in glowing mottled amber-orange and brown glass, the decoration graduates to deep brown around the neck and rim, with bubble inclusions giving the surface exceptional depth and movement. Its warm colouring makes it an appealing decorative piece, whether displayed alone or used for flowers.

The vase closely corresponds to Monart’s documented Shape SA in size VII: its 18 cm height matches the published catalogue measurement, while its form and proportions are consistent with known examples. The underside has a central polished pontil surrounded by a flat, polished base ring—another characteristic associated with Monart production.

Monart glass was made by Salvador Ysart and members of the Ysart family at John Moncrieff’s North British Glassworks in Perth, Scotland. Most examples were identified by paper labels rather than permanent signatures, and this vase is unmarked with no surviving label.

Condition:

In very good vintage condition, with no chips, cracks or repairs observed. There is light shelf wear to the underside, consistent with age and use. Bubbles, mottling and slight variations within the glass are features of its hand-blown manufacture.
