An elegant 1930s Whitefriars glass sherry set, comprising a hand-blown footed decanter with original hollow stopper and six matched glasses, all in warm golden amber.
The decanter has a beautifully balanced ovoid form, raised on a broad circular foot, with a slender neck and conforming stopper. The amber glass is particularly attractive in natural light, ranging from soft honey and golden tones through to deeper amber where the glass is heavier.
The six footed glasses complement the decanter beautifully and make this an appealing set for serving sherry, port, dessert wine, liqueurs or an after-dinner drink. Equally attractive displayed on a drinks cabinet or bar cart when not in use.
A lovely example of early Whitefriars table glass, combining the clean, restrained lines of the period with the subtle variations and character of hand-made glass.
Condition
Good vintage condition, with age-related surface wear and light scratching, particularly to the underside of the decanter foot, consistent with use. Small bubbles and irregularities within the glass are characteristic of manufacture.
Incised inventory number 29 is present to the underside of the stopper and on the rim of the decanter, as photographed.
