Our first Antique Fairs - A day out at Himley Hall and Hartlebury Castle

August 2026 has been an important month for us.  

At last, after about a year slowly creating the foundations for our small business, we've taken some of the antique, vintage and pre-loved things we've been collecting to our first two local fairs.   

The first thing we learned about fairs is it means early starts and being organised.  

I did the wrapping, packing and labelling and Russ did the logistics of loading the vehicle.  There were many treasures we wanted to take, it was difficult to choose what came along and what stayed home this time.  

We were lucky to have perfect weather, warm and sunny but with the bit of shade from the gazebo it was comfortable and a lovely way to spend a few hours on a Sunday morning through till early afternoon.  Sitting outside in peaceful surroundings, watching the world go by, passing the time of day with browsing customers and fellow traders.  It's good to be out amongst people.

And of course saying hello to dogs whenever opportunity arose.  We met a lovely couple at Himley Hall that had rescued a little dog with lots of personality.  It was great to hear their story and see how happy and settled their dog now is after a very difficult start in life.   

The second thing we learned about fairs is that when somebody finds something they love in our collection and decides to take it home, that's just great.  To see something we've chosen, loved and looked after for a while being carried off by somebody smiling and pleased with their find, knowing its going to become part of a new home and continue its story, that's our reason to get up before 5am and go to an antique fair.
